MONUMENT TO THE HEROES OF OUR TIME I AND II
Interactive public sculptures are permanently placed in the context of Autonomous cultural zone Metelkova mesto (Ljubljana, Slovenia). A boy and a girl carved from natural stone with colour intarsia are referring to the contemporary role of the child, not the stereotype one from the local society, but to the invisible one – the child from the distant location who makes our lives more convenient with her/his work. The boy is begging and the girl is sewing.
Both are placed on exposed location in the environment which is specific by its interventive nature on the field of unregulated creativity and unstoppable interaction in the space and society. As such it is impossible to reach the untouchability of art which is also the purpose of the carved Heroes. Through time they are constantly changing into many new expressions and meanings. However, the carved intarsia takes care that they will never be cleansed to the complete innocence.
