UNTIL I AM ABLE
Until I am able is the latst work in the Wear series. It is made from an old, worn-out formwork element, used tombstone letters, and shoulder straps from a discarded backpack.
In the spirit of questioning labor and the role of the individual in this social construct, Until I Am Able reflects on the position of art and, consequently, the artist. As with other works in the Wear series, I once again draw on a first-person statement—using myself as a universal model—a worker in the industry of productivity. Ethical questions surrounding labor and the role of the worker are addressed as universal, regardless of industry or profession. A personal statement becomes a universal assertion.
