BOOK

Book is an interactive intermedia artist book, combining sculpture, video, performance and (obsolete) technology. By turning heavy metal pages, the viewers flip between the artist’s Wear I-IV video performances (2005).

In the featured videos, the artist uses his various inventions to do all sorts of day-to-day chores, but rather than making the work easier for him, the impractical design of the devices makes it even more difficult, resulting in absurd situations. The negation of their own functionality is a common feature of many of Furlan’s objects, including his interpretation of a book (Book).

Video object is a ready-made, consisting of materials already used and is, as an interactive piece, subjected to occasional technical malfunctions due to its constant use. At the same time, these errors are part of the author’s concept, by which the artist wants to show the vulnerability of modern technology, to the perfection and infallibility of which one likes to rely on.
